The Power Of Song And Dance

Hey Fight Family,

For generations, the Batwa people of Bundibugyo, Uganda, lived in harmony with the dense forests of the wenzori Mountains, surviving as skilled hunters and gatherers, deeply connected to the land and its rhythms. Their forest home wasn't just where they lived, it was the heart of their culture and spiritual identity.

And at the center of it all?

Song and dance.

When I first came to the Congo 13 years ago, I was struggling, lost, and searching for direction. But the Batwa welcomed me not with words, but with music. With movement. And something inside me shifted. I came back to the center. I felt part of the community through this shared energy. It's through the song and dance that I became family.

Their music is more than tradition, it's how they stay united. It's how they heal.

These rhythms and dances have been passed down longer than language itself.

Today, Fight for the Forgotten works with our Batwa family to build brighter futures with clean water, agriculture, and education. But while we share life skills, they continue to teach us what real connection looks like.

In a world that keeps moving faster, there's something powerful about a people who keep their spirit alive through the drumbeat, the stomp of bare feet, and the joy of raising their voices together.
